It started with a plan penciled on a Carl's Jr. napkin to bring back a paddling event to Arizona. In 2009, launching from the Riverside Lodge Resort, 75 paddlers raced along the scenic route of Parker, Arizona down to a waiting imu, and ADR was born. With that same pioneering spirit, this year promises so much more!

The short course race starts and finishes in front of the Pirate's Den. The short course is approximately 5 miles. Race along the Arizona side of the Colorado River upriver to the ORANGE buoy at Hairpin Pinnacle where a left hand turn returns you along the California side to the finish line back at Pirate's Den. Remember to call out your number when you pass the timing pontoon!

This 6 man relay is open to unlimited and traditional outrigger canoes. The 20 mile course starts and finishes in front of the Pirate's Den. 6 paddlers start with the short course racers, paddle upstream to the YELLOW buoy towards the River Lodge and return to complete their 10 mile course. When they return to Pirate's Den, they will switch out with paddlers who will complete the same course and complete the relay race. With a single open co-ed division, teams are are made up with a minimum of 4 women. Remember to call out your number when you pass the timing pontoon!

The final outrigger race of the day is a 10 mile course that starts at Pirate's Den. Paddle for roughly 5 miles upriver to the YELLOW buoy to River Lodge where a left hand turn returns you along the California side to the finish line. Remember to call out your number when you pass the timing pontoon!

ADR started with a conversation to bring a paddle race back to Arizona. On the way to a SCORA directors meeting in Southern California, Steve Benson and John Burns penciled together a plan on a napkin from Carls Jr. After laying out the plan and a 75 entry field, a pig cooked in an underground imu by Uncle Dino and friends from River Lodge Resort, the event was official. The following year it was going to be bigger but needed the experience from a paddler, biker and event coordinator Larry Smith. Larry had held the biggest bicycle race in Arizona and had a successful run called Another Dam Race. It was decided to keep the name.
The ultimate paddling event is coming. Register today to be a part it.
